<span style="-webkit-font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The last year has been an eye opening experience and has made me realise crucial elements that are key for my own design process. The most important process I learnt was the fact that it is absolutely crucial to create a concept to develop my work. I realised this as I found my work flow was a lot more productive and informed when there was research involved that lead me to that point. I also learnt the importance of blogging and making notes of ideas, as it made the final resolutions a lot easier to understand as I had step by step guides of idea generation; this was really useful for group critiques, and I believe it will definitely be useful in industry when explaining my ideas to work colleagues. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">My favourite brief that I completed this year was the poster zine based on MUNA’s album ‘About U’. The final outcome is so successful because it was informed through research for every step taken in the production. I also really enjoyed it as I hadn’t previously thought about combining my interest in music with my interest in graphic design.</span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">My least favourite brief was the map that I designed for Chevin Forest. I really like the final outcomes for the project, but I struggled to find a concept for the work, which made me really struggle with the design process, as all I knew is that it had to be legible; this didn’t leave me with much to aspire to within the design and I believe the outcome isn’t very original. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This year I have become aware that my critical awareness has vastly improved compared to other years; I have realised the importance of research prior to designing and how important it is to have my design decisions informed. This not only improved my design process, it also improved my cognitive skills. I find it a lot easier to discuss and reflect upon my work using the concepts created informed by research, compared to the work that I created in previous years that didn’t have an informed concept. I believe this set of skills will definitely be transferrable to industry as I will be able to discuss my ideas thoroughly and they will have meaning behind them.</span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">A strength of this year has definitely been my research prior to designing; it is clear through-out every project that I have thoroughly researched each and every aspect, and every design decision has been informed. A weakness of this year has been my time management. The briefs I completed were all managed really well, however I didn’t realise how close the deadline was until it was too late, which made me a brief short of ten. This is disappointing, however I will make sure that I learn from this and always keep time management of all tasks in mind. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="-webkit-font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Overall, this year has been really useful and I believe my portfolio is very strong and industry ready, and I believe that I am prepared for interviews as I can talk about my work confidently. </span></span></div>

<span style="-webkit-font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This brief was inspired by the poster design I had created for MUNA’s song ‘If U Love Me Now’ (brief five), as I really enjoyed researching into colour psychology and matching the emotions of colours with the emotions of the song. I decided that I would create my own zine based on colour psychology for the whole album as another research brief, as I wanted to explore colour psychology in more depth. I then put each poster into a zine with a focus on layout and research. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The concept for each poster design was informed by the research undertaken in brief five, however each design was developed with a lot more research into different colour psychologies. The layout of the poster zine was created with the concept of complimenting the poster designs and not subtracting from their affect. I believe the concept was already really successful and due to further research into colour psychology I discovered a lot more information, which enabled me to explore composition further and complete this brief to a very high standard. Focusing on negative space for the layout allowed me to communicate another message; there is an importance for safe spaces, and MUNA gigs are now classed as a safe space for the LGBTQA+. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I really enjoyed this brief as it was based on one of my favourite bands, who are currently becoming huge across America due to their stance on politics. It was really great to research into the band and the meaning behind their lyrics, and made me appreciate their songs and influence even more. The final resolutions for this brief are a lot different from my other work; I don’t often use a lot of colour within my work, however after researching into colour psychology this may change in my next briefs as I now believe I can base colour choices on research and not just personal preference. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">My time management for this brief was really well executed, as I decided to create a poster a day until I had produced a poster for each song. This has allowed me to work on other projects alongside, meaning I remained interested in each brief and it didn’t become dull. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="-webkit-font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This project will look great in my portfolio due to the research that went into it; it will be a great talking point at interview as there is a lot to talk about for each page of the zine, and I’m really passionate about the final publication I produced. </span></span></div>
Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654897958236305432.post-1252691987456709702017-05-09T05:25:00.001-07:002017-05-11T11:37:37.212-07:00OUGD603 Poster Zine - Final Print - Self-initiated / Research Brief (Brief Seven)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Below is my final publication, printed and bound. I'm really happy with the final resolution; I designed the posters in CMYK knowing that I would eventually print it, so the colours are really bright - I actually prefer them printed to on screen. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also think the layout works really successfully. It doesn't take away from the poster designs, but it is still clear that it is there for a reason. I think making the colour psychology descriptions into grey was a really good choice as it makes the eyes focus on the poster design and not the text, which is what I was aiming for. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The printing went really well; the only slight issue is that some of the poster designs come onto the white page once it was folded, however this couldn't be helped. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This will make the pages thick enough to keep its shape, however thin enough so that it will fold easily and work nicely as a publication without losing too much off each side.<br />
<br />
I am going to bind the publication using staples. I have decided on this binding method as they are the easiest binding method to take out, and therefore if the reader wants to hang one or more of the poster designs up on their wall this would allow for this with minimal damage to the prints.Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654897958236305432.post-22979430413074495312017-05-08T05:23:00.002-07:002017-05-11T11:44:31.011-07:00OUGD603 Poster Zine - Feedback - Self-initiated / Research Brief (Brief Seven)I showed the publication to the rest of my table and they said that the publication was really different and original. They said that they really liked the concept and the research that went into creating the poster designs.<br />
<br />
They did suggest, however, changing the front cover due to the fact that a white cover will get dirty very quickly. I have decided to stick with my cover design, however, as the publication wouldn't be as successful without it. I am, however, going to consider putting an acetate cover on it once it is printed to protect it from dirt and mucky fingers.Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654897958236305432.post-18714974974748577582017-05-05T05:23:00.000-07:002017-05-11T11:41:10.497-07:00OUGD603 Poster Zine - Final Outcome - Self-initiated / Research Brief (Brief Seven)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Below is the final publication design. I decided to change the colour psychology descriptions to grey as it makes the eye focus more on the poster than the text. I also added a contents page and page numbers to each page so that it is a really easy publication to navigate. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the front cover, I decided to echo the theme of the poster designs; using rotated type. I think this is really interesting and shows the theme of the publication really well. It also adds another element of interactivity, which is always a bonus and will keep the reader interested. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to keep the front cover of the publication black and white, as it will make the poster designs really stand out and will be a surprise for the viewer.</div>

<br />
Having previously mentioned, I am personally not a fan of the poster zine as I don't have any more content to include on it, and the general consensus was that it would be really successful if there was more content. I don't want to take away from the concept of my poster zine - the colour psychology behind the lyrics. For this reason I am going to carry on developing the layout I personally like the most myself, as it is minimal and makes the poster design really stand out.<br />
<br />

At this point in the project I'm still not sure how I will display the posters, and I have finally finished creating all of the poster designs, so for this reason I am going to make some mock ups of layouts and see which I prefer, and hopefully get some feedback.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The design below takes inspiration from the People of Print posterzine. It's effective and includes the lyrics of the song, however I don't think there is enough imagery or text to make this successful - and I don't want to include more text as it would never be read. I specifically kept my descriptions of the colour psychology to a minimum for this particular reason. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYnxmFTWChWMh0TZVWb5nbb0NiTd2IlMC0KBCwn7uMB8XhNK7rMBDYSXyvQPNKZhoD5OXTc9hutnsXdqUD46q7a_Z652Qft5oMdabpxR7cTfanjViWRFXjWfadS374RW-U_pRP7zA8F6gu/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYnxmFTWChWMh0TZVWb5nbb0NiTd2IlMC0KBCwn7uMB8XhNK7rMBDYSXyvQPNKZhoD5OXTc9hutnsXdqUD46q7a_Z652Qft5oMdabpxR7cTfanjViWRFXjWfadS374RW-U_pRP7zA8F6gu/s320/1.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiK0uPHDrwEHNQlgFv71u_DnHtBxPhs4zU7V1Z6Fj5achXralYzXaPZNmXn45aBDBwF3x91G0Q1sm1dFHYL-XueHlIdw3KR-grQwpIUyWmdbLPYPRgUSoqMpTEbB6UxwQutCHBQymUS2nt/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiK0uPHDrwEHNQlgFv71u_DnHtBxPhs4zU7V1Z6Fj5achXralYzXaPZNmXn45aBDBwF3x91G0Q1sm1dFHYL-XueHlIdw3KR-grQwpIUyWmdbLPYPRgUSoqMpTEbB6UxwQutCHBQymUS2nt/s320/12.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Instead, I designed this publication layout below. I think it definitely has potential to be successful, however I'm not really set on the lyric placement. It was very difficult to incorporate both the lyrics and colour psychology description into such a small space.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3JdfLjEnjgmfdns1M9WEXi-Btlvhp573-ZbCneq40L5bjvEVzXtElkIB1g3KVsyzAXt0wuHe67oTiJtwHvG1Hf5AAr5MftET4AHzbPYEgX0c6AsD1YsRaXvxyCWY0c0tGcEeWakdptH06/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3JdfLjEnjgmfdns1M9WEXi-Btlvhp573-ZbCneq40L5bjvEVzXtElkIB1g3KVsyzAXt0wuHe67oTiJtwHvG1Hf5AAr5MftET4AHzbPYEgX0c6AsD1YsRaXvxyCWY0c0tGcEeWakdptH06/s320/2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made the above layout using a white background for the type. I think this is a lot more successful as it makes the type more readable and also makes the poster design stand out a lot more.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2UXI0059Qr5NDDDyofQC0SupF0_I8phyUkuo9QoLquAGtrnVTYl7XXXri_W4y9mPdAljIxTuyLdBmRlUv6E-3QBEPJB8j3K6p7wfymr14h_81MIfXyz0CsQAqYNQ4mJagqqnjpEOJnBf-/s1600/22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2UXI0059Qr5NDDDyofQC0SupF0_I8phyUkuo9QoLquAGtrnVTYl7XXXri_W4y9mPdAljIxTuyLdBmRlUv6E-3QBEPJB8j3K6p7wfymr14h_81MIfXyz0CsQAqYNQ4mJagqqnjpEOJnBf-/s320/22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I then tried a similar layout as the above, however moved the title type and added the specific colours to the text. I don't like this layout as I think the title text doesn't look like it belongs on the page, but I also don't particularly enjoy the colour of the colour psychology descriptions - I think it takes away from the poster design. I also preferred the poster design being on the left so that it is the first thing you see when you turn the page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv7jeTSELEneOmAhK73ZphNyaBqRfFrSwEp8M6F1zIM5YWGK04S2_5yF6bjno-fG2dTHV2CzU5A7mAp8xZO-a_fs86DWoQoxAMtEgBLBbGy5uu923fuu0Rro3Ti0lW4yJhJgH_wXcE_wFv/s1600/24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv7jeTSELEneOmAhK73ZphNyaBqRfFrSwEp8M6F1zIM5YWGK04S2_5yF6bjno-fG2dTHV2CzU5A7mAp8xZO-a_fs86DWoQoxAMtEgBLBbGy5uu923fuu0Rro3Ti0lW4yJhJgH_wXcE_wFv/s320/24.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I moved the poster back to the left hand side of the spread and centralised the text, taking inspiration from some of the zines I have previously looked at. I think this is definitely on its way to being successful, however I think the type is too big and takes away from the poster design. I want the poster designs to be the main focus of the publication, and then the reasoning to be a secondary focus.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixa_CTKvtzQPxzowmnT76Cpfz_TJt128CN2eUyUaGGOPBZW4cTWsDUShzNNFR03phKjwrfDyIBB8v1JqQ8GhTUgiLwF6hqTfMy9DvlokmBFDbRepon_x3MD1nhbK0bk_1rOwRZEnqQiHO0/s1600/23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixa_CTKvtzQPxzowmnT76Cpfz_TJt128CN2eUyUaGGOPBZW4cTWsDUShzNNFR03phKjwrfDyIBB8v1JqQ8GhTUgiLwF6hqTfMy9DvlokmBFDbRepon_x3MD1nhbK0bk_1rOwRZEnqQiHO0/s320/23.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the last layout I have come up with. Taking on my own critiques from the previous layout designs, I have made the text a lot smaller and moved it so that the type only begins at the centre of the page. I think this is really successful as the text doesn't take away from the poster design, in fact they compliment each other really effectively.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwMEgJ3PkhbyWoWbdePfQn9Cvo-_N6W28-C-pWEhPQau4GhhnYN33M0H2n9e-z9e8aMI9x3lsJtSJMownOmfclTbT379lRfwgY04ean54sJ5BzO-IW_i7zDFwx8vstEnAqa-qazDMvbVH6/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwMEgJ3PkhbyWoWbdePfQn9Cvo-_N6W28-C-pWEhPQau4GhhnYN33M0H2n9e-z9e8aMI9x3lsJtSJMownOmfclTbT379lRfwgY04ean54sJ5BzO-IW_i7zDFwx8vstEnAqa-qazDMvbVH6/s320/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Before designing the rest of the publication I am going to ask for some feedback to make sure that I'm on the right track.Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654897958236305432.post-86596062317123646742017-04-27T17:53:00.000-07:002017-05-13T14:49:22.477-07:00OUGD603 Chevin Forest - Design Boards - Self-initiated (Brief Nine)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="-webkit-font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This brief was a self-initiated brief that I created when I went to visit Chevin Forest and realised how difficult the map design they have was to follow. I also noted that there weren’t any leaflets to follow and the maps were a great distance from each other, making it really easy to get lost and walk along the wrong trail. I decided to create a map that would be easier to read, and apply it to a leaflet design for this particular reason. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The concept of my map was to keep it simple and legible; I used contrasting lines to show the main roads and different paths, and cut down a lot of the unnecessary imagery that made the original map very crowded, such as the illustrations of trees. I made sure to use bold colours to make the map design really stand out, however to only use natural colours to ensure that the map design would be in keeping with the aesthetic of Chevin Forest. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I think my map design is really successful as it is clear that it focused on legibility, and the same concept was applied to the leaflet design. The leaflet design was created with the intention of being a lot smaller than most leaflet designs, meaning that it could be fit into a pocket and was easy to access without the need of extra folding. </span></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-kerning: none;"></span><br /></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I found this project really challenging as I had never previously designed a map through-out studies, and I didn’t really know where to start, so I looked into a lot of visual research to aid my own development. I really enjoyed this project due to its challenging nature. It looks really effective in my portfolio due to the fact it shows that I can create very functional and informative designs.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-kerning: none;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">My time management of this project was really efficient; unlike other projects, this project was mainly spent designing due to the fact that I had never created a map before, so it took a lot of development to get to the final resolution. </span></span></div>

I am going to print the leaflet design using 80gsm white stock. I have decided this as it's a very affordable stock and it means it would be very cost effective to reproduce. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was another idea I had of printing; the map would be printed onto a piece of wood and pinned up on trees around the park on the paths. I think this would work really successfully, as it would be recycling old trees, it would really fit with the general aesthetic of the park - there are lots of sculptures around the park created out of old trees. </div>

To begin designing the leaflet, I started by creating a book, however I have realised this is definitely the wrong way to go about it; it doesn't allow much experimentation of layout so I am going to scrap this idea and start again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPfkV-8goF91a1aa3pDBcEWND9IJo2DHSJ6tr8bAtAtWkkl1AFYeoBZIH3gNc0AHiHPLvg9CBEKwFoflXB4EYOc0uoDKZpx5viUdsL-n2RYwyZz4BOSsJEXXRkTrZDaAPGDwLM_BGWft71/s1600/leaflet3+part+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="85" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPfkV-8goF91a1aa3pDBcEWND9IJo2DHSJ6tr8bAtAtWkkl1AFYeoBZIH3gNc0AHiHPLvg9CBEKwFoflXB4EYOc0uoDKZpx5viUdsL-n2RYwyZz4BOSsJEXXRkTrZDaAPGDwLM_BGWft71/s200/leaflet3+part+2.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWQJCG5EKPhVJuYCOFjcbUrZzQGj9dSC04bIxwmv7sX5Zjb7RXNOOGL2vr9N0PlwYPG96bXQdTkZxmyLmzjR1atA3UR66rxhy_0jW6cSi3rYed420CCwIromqHeg2Zmytb6PVW229DghYl/s1600/leaflet3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="85" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWQJCG5EKPhVJuYCOFjcbUrZzQGj9dSC04bIxwmv7sX5Zjb7RXNOOGL2vr9N0PlwYPG96bXQdTkZxmyLmzjR1atA3UR66rxhy_0jW6cSi3rYed420CCwIromqHeg2Zmytb6PVW229DghYl/s200/leaflet3.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before designing the leaflet, I thought it would be beneficial to create some quick icons that will go along with the body of text. These can be seen below; I kept each design within a circle as I think it makes the icons look closely related to each other and it's clear they're a set. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuWwNXCpflPPhTQmtqhLav_lNtQvlmlB3u4gjcBilxAHRiZXFmheQpI7d6f_VqGgYZ-jgHnPXG_1J7cQC7snIKkorBkzWNsTbgazgEb0pxdaDZT-LRaPhWHH4cldW9vTX4rELWXU1VrQYG/s1600/ICONS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuWwNXCpflPPhTQmtqhLav_lNtQvlmlB3u4gjcBilxAHRiZXFmheQpI7d6f_VqGgYZ-jgHnPXG_1J7cQC7snIKkorBkzWNsTbgazgEb0pxdaDZT-LRaPhWHH4cldW9vTX4rELWXU1VrQYG/s320/ICONS.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then created the leaflet below. It's really successful and each element of the leaflet comes together really well, however this was all put onto one side of A4, and therefore there isn't a need to squash the elements together as I have done as the other side would be left blank.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6CRUk3c2GB_SU4fnMiySUFrD8uttCZL8mPgpJ1sU1cOzDOtSXRa-RymCqGydehyphenhyphenLdufA6mvNJqJK8Fyw5FVNvuFBjzK-TeVEOG9CJAMzCJdHt3pkxL8ly05dnsfAbr39ClbVcQE33VWkn/s1600/LEAFLET2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="134" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6CRUk3c2GB_SU4fnMiySUFrD8uttCZL8mPgpJ1sU1cOzDOtSXRa-RymCqGydehyphenhyphenLdufA6mvNJqJK8Fyw5FVNvuFBjzK-TeVEOG9CJAMzCJdHt3pkxL8ly05dnsfAbr39ClbVcQE33VWkn/s320/LEAFLET2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This informed the next design I created. I think this is a lot more successful and each element that makes up the leaflet design has a focus on the negative space around it, and therefore it's pleasing to look at. However, I'm not a huge fan of the positioning of the icons. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8pRUH5YwElhq1z9ocmjHeNawnE7heeeq-51y8MbtX-jc2sBXv5qNYuX41fcmztY6SD94s_CclNWp4jcwBmM4IDL_0TQCtcXxSOAyz6K9oWhcwoED8vcVKYybHeVmi2UUETHIMsam72scf/s1600/BACKLEAFLET.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="83" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8pRUH5YwElhq1z9ocmjHeNawnE7heeeq-51y8MbtX-jc2sBXv5qNYuX41fcmztY6SD94s_CclNWp4jcwBmM4IDL_0TQCtcXxSOAyz6K9oWhcwoED8vcVKYybHeVmi2UUETHIMsam72scf/s200/BACKLEAFLET.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8y9vhgrn6sF4WgFSI4pJ0rIqGuYahv4dtXsJBXqluUooF102TSQrYN2D-eIpI_3PgD49-XWEpHPUGA-bOIJmBsKB2kV8PQDF0-amGa-4spTRk7flbS0fdOz6Rb9zlXtZSbUkii3D7WBYW/s1600/FRONTLEAFLET.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="83" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8y9vhgrn6sF4WgFSI4pJ0rIqGuYahv4dtXsJBXqluUooF102TSQrYN2D-eIpI_3PgD49-XWEpHPUGA-bOIJmBsKB2kV8PQDF0-amGa-4spTRk7flbS0fdOz6Rb9zlXtZSbUkii3D7WBYW/s200/FRONTLEAFLET.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
For this reason, I decided to look through some of the photographs I had taken at Chevin Forest and incorporate them into my leaflet design. To make the photographs fit with the design I changed the settings so that the images were mono colours - the colours that was used in the map design. I think this is a really successful outcome as each element works really well together and all of the leaflet's available space is utilised really well. This also allowed me to put the map on the back of the leaflet, meaning the map will be a lot easier to read and follow as it will be bigger, thus answering the brief.<br />
<br />

This would be really useful at Chevin Park as the maps are spaced very far apart and there are lots of different paths to go down, meaning it's very easy to go the wrong way without instruction.<br />
<br />
I found this design below which I think works really well using just two colours - teal and black. This is something I will have to incorporate into my own leaflet design as I have used minimal colours for the design, and therefore it would look very odd if the leaflet used lots of colours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/e2/24/35/e2243546aeb6724761f78373579c7054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/e2/24/35/e2243546aeb6724761f78373579c7054.jpg" width="81" /></a></div>
<br />
This is another leaflet design I found whilst looking into leaflets that use a limited colour scheme. It's beautifully designed and uses type in a grid really well. This is something I won't be able to do with my own map design as I have a very small amount of type for my leaflet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://dspncdn.com/a1/media/692x/e1/af/20/e1af20d4feefd3560f930138c42dcb3e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://dspncdn.com/a1/media/692x/e1/af/20/e1af20d4feefd3560f930138c42dcb3e.jpg" height="234" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the final leaflet design that I looked into. It's very text-heavy, and almost looks like an infographic. I mainly looked at this design to see how they positioned their type; it's in a very postmodern style as type overlaps a lot and there isn't really a theme within the design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Following on from the previous design, I decided to make the map that I had already created into an outline. This makes it more obvious that they are paths and roads, especially when looking at the weight of the strokes. I also think this makes the type stand out even more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhna6iJO4yjxQUELqO52nO4-bqM_511Pk7HMZV5FwW67ETmn53s4lQALMNsElBDgt_KCJOeVYIzNWju9A2JlMfiMJZ4YMZcclU8PeGjKCP3KwiN0LPVaVY7oi0KbB5hjSRB5LgTapRFFQwf/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhna6iJO4yjxQUELqO52nO4-bqM_511Pk7HMZV5FwW67ETmn53s4lQALMNsElBDgt_KCJOeVYIzNWju9A2JlMfiMJZ4YMZcclU8PeGjKCP3KwiN0LPVaVY7oi0KbB5hjSRB5LgTapRFFQwf/s320/8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I then added the details and a key needed for the map to be easily followed. I also added a point on the map where the person would be stood when looking at the map. This is key and something I noticed the original map design was lacking when walking around Chevin Forest Park.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmy1ttvjDC-3T0rY2zrImVzI6eBehqp-E22vIdIibmPk9r2b7aW4hwxsVbNjPvXHSK_4CTVh0ij0WkgfnjhMttJBxNg0uZGF5GL7ENnzs0ieEDGm0hPSA6nI4A56IXosmJtawnB6vCnOAB/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmy1ttvjDC-3T0rY2zrImVzI6eBehqp-E22vIdIibmPk9r2b7aW4hwxsVbNjPvXHSK_4CTVh0ij0WkgfnjhMttJBxNg0uZGF5GL7ENnzs0ieEDGm0hPSA6nI4A56IXosmJtawnB6vCnOAB/s320/9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm still not completely set on the above colour scheme, so I thought it would be beneficial to strip it back to black and white. I think this is actually really successful without colour. It would also be beneficial as it would save a lot of money on printing, and it would also make it possible to print it out into leaflets so that people could follow it around the whole park. This map, however, makes it very difficult to tell which is a path and white is a river. For this reason, colour will definitely have to be used in the final resolution.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSZnosegeO6H4rjQ1pb3_x5t3RtV-qkUcSVLqbu3dgIny5I4At_YMf-D3UhyttLspUOgtvIHqB-30yETjH8b2GXHD_Ia1YN3j1hgW_OiQy1AMm7C9hBRECPbGuwoFbBnJade8bT4VuVa6e/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSZnosegeO6H4rjQ1pb3_x5t3RtV-qkUcSVLqbu3dgIny5I4At_YMf-D3UhyttLspUOgtvIHqB-30yETjH8b2GXHD_Ia1YN3j1hgW_OiQy1AMm7C9hBRECPbGuwoFbBnJade8bT4VuVa6e/s320/10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Going on from the previous idea, I added minimal colour to the design to make the key points stand out. I think this is definitely more successful than the previous design as it is clear to see where the rivers are and where the paths and roads are. I also added green text instead of red as I had previously done as I think it makes the design a lot more approachable and friendly, as red generally suggests danger.<br />

Having given it some time, however, I want to try a different route with the map design as I think it looks very basic and I think I could make it look more slick.Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654897958236305432.post-19746640681866172752017-04-17T05:18:00.000-07:002017-05-11T11:09:10.896-07:00OUGD603 Poster Zine - Development: Around U - Self-initiated / Research Brief (Brief Seven)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

To begin developing my own map design for Chevin Forest, I created the basic outlines of the paths and roads of the map and then added a texture to the background to represent the trees. I think these designs are overly-complicated and are still quite crowded, and would be even more crowded once the type was added.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOQtGXPEsCXe7VwyQAjfYhBkVTWy99SdogvnFkUQKb1IueZdxkssEQmOmEkv3RNLLvP6afVZjwst4SGWK25cqo3afe1RL-yBPB0AFQkrgOcJptz7E-wADX_P-FmhsYPAsN5d4JZab8ojBT/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="85" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOQtGXPEsCXe7VwyQAjfYhBkVTWy99SdogvnFkUQKb1IueZdxkssEQmOmEkv3RNLLvP6afVZjwst4SGWK25cqo3afe1RL-yBPB0AFQkrgOcJptz7E-wADX_P-FmhsYPAsN5d4JZab8ojBT/s200/2.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEe93-aeElbnrEc3ccCXQapnU3nAEazn7jL-yKKcHWb7aDQH1b6OrKGsnUrvylk3nlnYx0GY9ZkGxT3-xS0tnct4Kxl2memjKcml5cDdTaCEEMYe_sJt4qxUnX7YULnJlKWXUIXWrm6zkj/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="85" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEe93-aeElbnrEc3ccCXQapnU3nAEazn7jL-yKKcHWb7aDQH1b6OrKGsnUrvylk3nlnYx0GY9ZkGxT3-xS0tnct4Kxl2memjKcml5cDdTaCEEMYe_sJt4qxUnX7YULnJlKWXUIXWrm6zkj/s200/1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
I then stripped the map back and added a diagonal line to represent the trees instead. This is definitely more successful than the previous developments, however I still think that when the type is added the map will be too crowded.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdgYrdaLcqUZ0dSexBUb4e_4iR2KaPPAUlzyaM8ns8PQd8pBlvJgJ5g1iM28CjgEs3qNbACvTSwybaQgtLASXkYxZiDCiisHyI5IQsG8_0pdZ0ArK78RjJHmOokvHCzK3Bfr6MaIMunc4V/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="137" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdgYrdaLcqUZ0dSexBUb4e_4iR2KaPPAUlzyaM8ns8PQd8pBlvJgJ5g1iM28CjgEs3qNbACvTSwybaQgtLASXkYxZiDCiisHyI5IQsG8_0pdZ0ArK78RjJHmOokvHCzK3Bfr6MaIMunc4V/s320/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I completely stripped the map back. I think this is actually really successful on its own, so I am going to add the text.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGhrltDTRNNcATI6GG0nNMt_xYD9j7m3h2aZcitz329cXAJY53gj7YnOc7ilR5Uqoke1kNiSk_jnLmUUrDe2HmguWU9B0kYF1bhVqE3f0TPziyy8CzXRjWkfzzwjgJ6I8tIaoivRMfhro7/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="137" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGhrltDTRNNcATI6GG0nNMt_xYD9j7m3h2aZcitz329cXAJY53gj7YnOc7ilR5Uqoke1kNiSk_jnLmUUrDe2HmguWU9B0kYF1bhVqE3f0TPziyy8CzXRjWkfzzwjgJ6I8tIaoivRMfhro7/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to add a grey background to the map as this made the text stand out a lot more, but it also made the map a lot less harsh on the eyes. I think this is really successful as it meets the brief; it is a lot more minimal and legible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5zNHjCPK-hRm7jGUgYranU2lAX_PmFs4sK6HtDHigJHUPP1qnbToxRnFnrlW0vnYtoD_Kpb02Wj3LIVn2ZYmulfaED57gsdQzq3Gi6Y69VpT7lc6hNG8_kjbMeQYaUkSVbqINy5AdWIuQ/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5zNHjCPK-hRm7jGUgYranU2lAX_PmFs4sK6HtDHigJHUPP1qnbToxRnFnrlW0vnYtoD_Kpb02Wj3LIVn2ZYmulfaED57gsdQzq3Gi6Y69VpT7lc6hNG8_kjbMeQYaUkSVbqINy5AdWIuQ/s320/5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I added the important details to the map so that it could be followed a lot easier. This is really successful, however I am going to ask for some feedback before developing this map design further.<br />
<br />
